Fishing sector and educators work together for sustainable fishing training

9 November 2021

The PFA is a partner in the project Catching The Potential, a cooperative effort of the fishing sector and educators to develop and implement an effective, international standard for sustainable fishing training for fishers.

On Tuesday 4 and Friday 5 November project partners from Belgium, France, Greece, Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands, together with representatives from the Dutch fisheries school joined a seminar to share views on and experiences in sustainable fisheries. The participants experienced a taste of the Dutch sustainable fishing course ‘Fishing with future’ and a visit to the fish auction and a fishing vessel in IJmuiden.

The PFA takes part in Catching The Potential to share the knowledge gained in 'Fishing with a Future' with international partners and to contribute to the realisation of a standard for sustainable fishing in international conventions, such as the STCW-F. This concerns education not only on the management of fish stocks, but also on sustainable business operations and the position of fishers.
